Can the Automatic Combustion Control on the Quadra-Fire Pioneer II C model be removed or deactivated so the damper is fully manually operated?

I’ve read the operating manual (which contains this schematic of the ACC mechanism — attached below) and it details how to remove and replace the ACC mechanism and timer assembly. However, without actually dismantling the whole unit to look at it, I’m unclear if it would still function without the ACC/timer assembly. I figured I should ask before I MacGyver it. 😂

(And yes, I know the general opinion is positive toward the ACCs for their ability to automate wood burning, but my husband would prefer it to be manually operated like what he’s always been used to.)

Thank you!
RRW
