Recently had an insert professionally installed in our existing fireplace. Original clay liner was cleaned and six inch hand insulated flexible liner was installed. After a few hours of burn, we hear what sounds to be something falling and landing on top of insert. Not all the time, maybe every third day of use. If this is left over creosote, how concerned should we be?

It would be good to lift off the surround and take a peek. It could be mortar. If it is creosote, get the installer back there.
