Question on Buck Stove 74 insert

Hello! First time poster here,

We had the Buck Stove model 74 insert installed last Saturday. While it's been a trial and error learning process, we do feel much more confident using it now. Prior to getting it installed, I read information on the net and watched numerous youtube videos on operative wood stoves. Most all of those had venting for the flue (damper?) and then in front or bottom of the stove, but the model 74 only has one in the front under the door. The manual offers no help in this. Any 74 users can tell me what the difference is and why there is no way to open or close the damper and just venting under the door?

Greetings! Some stoves, like some Lopis, still have a bypass damper at the top that opens up for easy starting, but they are not all that common any more. Our stove doesn't have one either. Flue dampers were more common on old school stoves that were not airtight. They helped slow down heat going out of the stove. Most modern stoves are single air control now. The burn is more controlled on your stove and more efficient. The air control under the door regulates the primary air to the fire. As it's closed down with a good fire going, the draft creates a vacuum in the stove that pulls secondary air through the holes in the secondary tubes above the fire. That reburns excess wood gases for efficient heating and combustion.

Thank you for the quick response! We are loving it now. At first, we had too green of wood so we finally got some well seasoned wood and are seeing now what this wood stove is capable of. Just in time as we are having our coldest weather so far this season, this weekend.
