I use both the stove top and flue gas probe . Picture of my flue gas probe I use on both of my stoves. It can be calibrated by setting it into boiling water. Has a nice little bracket that goes in the hole first and then you slide your probe through the bracket, holds the probe straight out, and in place. I like the big face as I can see it from far away with just a quick glance.

Cheapest place I found to get the probe: TEquipment.net . It's a Bacharach Tempoint # 0012-7014. $69.35 , with S&H $82.15. It's actually part of an oil furnace service kit. Most places want over 100 dollars for the gauge. I found out about it , when it came with my Paxo 60 gasifiaction boiler, actually AHONA heating supplied it. So I bought more for my wood stoves once we moved. My self I think it's a nice looking gauge and you can see it easy from across the room, just looking at the angle of the red needle. Just drill a 1/4 inch hole in your pipe, hang the clip in the the hole and then the probe pushes into the clip with an interference fit so it won't spin or move in or out. Just a really nice way to mount the probe. This supplier is great to deal with, you'll have it in like 2 days. Great service.

That's the range that was offered in want I needed. I've never heated my stoves out of that range, 650 -700 max. I think over that and your doing damage anyways. My steel Quad was in the 600 range and my Esse cook stove runs from 300 -400. Just wanted an accurate gauge.

I just thought with all the debating on here about wood stove thermometers being inaccurate, why not just get thermometers from an instrumentation place. I believe the surface gauge I ordered is used to check metals such as rail road tracks prior to welding. For a few extra dollars you can get the same gauge with certification paper work. I think they are reasonably priced as well.

Yep. I've got a magnetic flue thermo lying on the horizontal tee snout. To make sure I'm not stressing my flue, I generally keep that under 500 on start-up. The cat thermo seems to be an indicator of fire box temp near the flue collar. I run that up to about 1000. I hold those there and monitor the stove top until it hits 22-230, then light off.

Yesterday i put my rutland temp gauge in my oven found out was off and i know the condar probe may be off cause of test done last year by pen i think.

Here soon i will order some more accurate ones.
