Recent Delivery - What do you think?

Hey Guys,
I just had a local firewood/logger drop off ~2.5 cords of random wood for me. I asked the delivery guy who told me its wood they run through their processor that may not be perfectly straight, may have a knot or two or is just short. The pile is between 16" and 8' lengths. I paid $60/cord for the wood which is about 25% what I would pay for processed and delivered firewood.

Seems I have a bit of work ahead of me and hopefully it will split up well, but I cant complain for the price...

From what I can tell its mostly oak, a little maple and a little birch. Do you guys see anything else in there?

Beech and maybe some ash.

Yep, I think I see ash all the way in back on the second photo and beech in both pictures.

Might be a few pieces of white oak in the back left of the first picture.

For that price I'd tell I want all they can deliver.
So what if you have to split, stack and cut a few pieces you could sell a little and get the rest for free!
Of course you would want 20-30 cord for yourself first.
Don't worry seasoned wood = better heat or more$$$$

I'm fortunate to have over eleven acres of mixed hardwoods on my property, so I am able to get all my firewood from cutting dead or downed trees. However, I live in the foothills in western NC, so a lot of the wood I haul out of the woods is up or down steep ravines and must be carried out by hand. If I could get wood like that delivered for $60 a cord I would certainly leave some of the trees that are a quarter mile from my house just lay out there and return to nature rather than carry them out!

$60 is real cheap for wood. In Rhode Island and Mass you can't touch it for that. A cord of green unsplit is $150 and up. Seasoned is $200 and up. That is why I cut my own, the way I want, and have 10 to 12 cord always available using the 2 and 3 year wood first. Some years 4 cords and some 5 cords. When cutting on my land I take the standing dead and downed wood first to clear the areas and because it is ready to use immediately most often. That methods also opens up areas where younger trees can grow better.

Yeah around here central Michigan a cord of 8' logs is about $100 each (10 cord min.)
Cut split delivered about $130-$150 per cord.

There are a few companies here that clear land for malls and shopping centers and they deliver wood by long length. They call it 1500 cu ft and it cost $800 and up depending on how far they deliver. They toute 11 cords but it really comes to about 6 cords. There is a lot of air space between the odd shaped logs. Now in Maine when you get a truck load like that, the pack is tight and the yield is much higher and cheaper.

There is a lot of air in a log load with random length logs, I usually get about 6 cords out of a full load. Put some 15' logs on a truck that can fit 20' and you lose a lot of capacity real quick. But the short loads are fine by me. 6 cords is bad enough in my yard, 10 would bury me completely.

I got around 6 cords but I only cut and split what I needed for the year which is about 4 cords. The driver told me 10 + cords but I didn't believe him. You are correct about uneven lengths and crooked logs taking up air space. But it is a better deal than a wood guy coming and delivering less than a cords, calling it a cords and charging you $225.00. That just doesn't work.

Yes, but the short loads don't matter in my case. Logs and unprocessed wood can be had pretty easy in surburban NJ. I don't charge the guy who I get my logs from to unload his truck in my backyard, but the dumps/mulch processors do. Somebody elses money stays in his pocket every time he leaves logs in my yard.
