Recommendations for Stove Glass Cleaner

Greetings,

I'm looking for recommendations for a stove glass cleaner. I used to have a white paste made by Spray Nine, which had caranuba wax in it. It worked great. But they stopped manufacturing it and I've bounced around with other brands without much satisfaction.

I use this stuff and it works great for me. Just gotta use it when the stove is fully cooled down and once the first coat goes on it makes it easier to clean after. Works on both my pellet and wood stoves.

Yes, I've used this, too. I think part of the problem is I can't wait long enough for the stove to cool completely before applying this and, like you, find it's difficult to wipe away. If you apply too much, it can also collect like dandruff on the bottom of the door. And using Selsun Blue is out of the question.

So, here's separate question but still related to maintainance products.

If a little rust develops on the surface of the firebox, is it acceptable (or recommended) to lightly brush this using steel wool and repaint it?

Yea, you can't rush that stuff on a hot stove, dries to quick and makes it a pain to get off. Than its head and shoulders time! haha

That's a great review. I've never heard of dry moly spray but I see it's a dry lubricant stable to 450 degrees C. That's only about 850 degrees Fareinheit. How hot does the firebox get anyway?

What kind of stove do you have? With mine I wouldn't need to use the dry moly, just clean the back plate and use the high temp header paint. I'm not exactly sure how hot the fire box gets Still learning! I'm bet smwillianson would know!

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works well on glass as well. I use the ash and paper towel option, and if the brown stuff is too tough I pull out the Magic Eraser...TAAA DAA it is gone!

I think your off a bit. My outside stove thermometer temp gauge reads 700+ on a regular basis and nothing is glowing orange

I clean out my stove every Saturday during the burning season. I use a soft natural bristle paint brush to gently wipe the loose ash off the glass. Then I take a clean damp cotton rag and gently wipe the glass. I have found that if you do it every week, the glass stays perfect. This method was recommended to me by my installation/service tech. Save your money IMO.

Use a brush on your vacuum to get all the loose ash off the glass, and then a wet paper towel dipped in stove ash.....works great & is almost free.

Hello

I have my money on this Rutland stuff this year. LOL

It is soft and creamy white so it does not scratch the ceramic high temp glass.

I meant centigrade... I don't usually spit off temps in metric but I just happen to know that temp... So the firebox temps can be 900 degrees or better

Hello

600 Degrees Celsius is 1112 Degrees Fahrenheit so approx 1200 Degrees F is more correct, especially given that the High Temp Ceramic Glass in the Fire Door is good for approx 1400 Deg F.

I use ceramic stove top cleaner and it works perfectly and quickly. I find the paper towel and ash technique slightly messy in comparison.

2-3 baby wipes gets the Job done here. We still have 2 in diapers so we have lots of them around.

just be sure to avoid ammonia. it will cause the glass to cloud up over time. from what i've read, there's no fixing it either.

i actually started not even using water last season. just a dry paper towel.
it cleans it well enough i can't see any lines unless i look closely.
then every once in a while i will hit it with water.
