I bought a basically brand new 1984 defiant from a friend I am planning installing it into an existing fireplace the problem is the stove is 35 inches high with 8 inch legs the problem is my fireplace 32 inches high I would like to remove the legs

The fireplace width is 42 so I have room on the side I plan on installing a liner in the Terra cotta chimney

Any advice appreciated

This stove is primarily a top-loader. Will that still be possible? Sounds like the short leg option would help here.

There are several caveats that need to be watched out for:
The chimney flue and smoke shelf need to be completely and thoroughly cleaned. This stove requires an 8" liner. Is there room for this in the chimney? What is the ID of the current chimney tiles?
You'll want a block-off plate installed in the damper area to keep the heat in the room.
Make sure the clearance and hearth requirements for this stove are properly met or exceeded.
