Renewing my membership dues

I've been a member since April of 2012. At that time I was doing about everything wrong. Today I am doing most things right. I am renewing my dues because I took the time to take apart my previously always creasoted laiden pipes and to my surprise they were clean as a whistle. My temps in the house have been very good with a happy wife. My clothes do not smell like I burn wood. So if you would kindly accept my dues paid until 2018 I will continue with what I have read and learned. Only thing I request as a paid member is more pictures. I like to look at those first. Thank you

Dues were doubled beginning May 1st of this year.

Same here, but I've got a couple more years so now I have some Oak I can start burning this year. I know what you mean about the clean pipe; Once you see that and feel the heat while the stove pretty much runs itself on dry wood, you never wanna go back. :) If I hadn't stumbled onto this place, I might still be fighting that wet Red Oak...

Here is my chimney cap at end of last winter. Not too hard to brush clean and I got about 1/2 gallon of creosote from sweeping the liner.
I'm kinda new to this so I don't have a gauge on if this looks bad or normal.
I'm excited to see how much less creosote I get at the end of this burn season.

Am I looking at this wrong, or is most of that expanded metal fully clogged? That crazy!!

Yeah, you should do better than that for sure. Looks like your wood wasn't fully dry, and may have been snuffing the cat. If the cat is burning well there shouldn't be that much gunk getting by it. Hopefully, it's not plugged with creosote or ashed up, or it may need to be removed and brushed, or simmered out with the white vinegar/distilled water bath. I would check it before you have to fire up the stove this fall.
I have an external masonry chimney with insulated liner and got 1-1.5 qt. after a full season. Had some flaky stuff in the top of the pipe and on the screen, but only powder further down. Keep checking, and brush way before it gets that plugged. If your wood is much drier this year, you may well be able to go all season without brushing.

I have the same cap and my barely looked like I had been burning last winter (as in it still looked damn near new). To be fair, I was only burning on nights and weekends. However, regardless of how much you were burning, that looks like a complete mess, to be perfectly blunt. How seasoned was your wood?

Funniest post in all the years I have been on the Forum. Years ago everybody kept complementing a guy on his wood stack holders. Finally a lady, that is now a regular, posted "Okay, it has to be said, so it might as well be me. Nice Rack!"
