Can I replace the gasket without disassembling the stove ? I did the dollar test and the dollar is loose in the middle of the damper. Thanks.

On the encore you can access it by removing the flue collar but it's tricky. Have you explored that possibility?

You can do this from the flue coller.. but its difficult to clean everything up properly

You can take the top off of the stove its pretty simple. its 2 nuts that hold in in from underneath the pan head in the grove where the griddle goes is the 3rd..

I did a how to thread on my rebuild last year.. with pictures you can look it up.. Id pull the damper housing and install new gaskets on both

UPDATE Been having trouble with overheating , previous posts, vermont Castings defiant 1945. Replies on forum suggested primary air vale and maybe thermostat assembly and possibly damper gasket. I contacted the only woodstove business within 100 miles that would consider the work. This business previously replaced broken screws on the brackets that hold the glass on the doors and replaced the gaskets behind the glass. Great work. This time another employee shows up at my house and says" I have never seen a stove like this, do you have a service manual". He removes the heat shield looks at primary valve in the back and says all okay. Never checked primary thermostat assembly, did not replaced the damper gasket. I was out of town at a meeting but my wife was home and not aware of the work order specifics. I contacted the owner and the same employee returned to replace the damper gasket. He looks inside the stove and says "I don't know how that comes out. I handed him the VC gasket kit directions. He replaced the damper gasket and had a very difficult time replacing the damper assembly. Once all was reinstalled he packed up and left. Never adjusted the damper. Cost $300.00 up front service call plus tax and $30.60 for the damper gasket. Total cost $347.10. Sad that I can no longer do this myself due to aging.
