First, I must admit that I'm the lazy sort when spring comes. I didn't sweep my chimney when I cleaned the stove for summer.
In June we had a major hailstorm sweep through and I had to replace the shingles. So, I called a contractor that I've known and trusted for years. He and his crew came over and in less than 2 days stripped my old shingles, put on new with ice barrier under, and they were gone like the wind. 8 of 10 houses needed new roofs from that storm.
Sunday, the 20th I thought I had better sweep the chimney. Ran the brush down and on the way back up, I lifted 9 ft of triple wall out of the roof adapter. When they had removed my chimney to shingle, they didn't get it locked back in place with the lower piece.
So, in the end, it's safer to be lazy.
If you've had roofing done, and not checked it yet, I recommend inspecting your chimney. I narrowly avoided seeing if my insurance was as good as my stove...
Sorry, didn't think about pics.
