Room to room heat transfer

Hi all,

looking into the best ways to move heat from one room to the rest of the house (ranch). I have a Castle Serenity in my three season room on the end of the house that cooks it up into the 80s if i run it constantly. I have a door fan but its an awkward turn into the kitchen. I'd like to be as efficient as possible and get some heat out into main part of the house. This would also help me use less oil for the other end of the house. The stove is currently in the corner of the room, but I'm going to move it to the center outside wall this summer when I can make some changes to that wall. My question is: How much heat will an inline duct fan be able to move to the rest of the house? and will the air cool by the time it gets to the living room and dining room?

Actually it’s easyer to move the cold(more dense) air than the hot. Move your cold air to the hot room, the heat will transfer naturally.

You saying to put some duct work and registers in the floor through the basement?

fans through the house and around these corners is nearly impossible

Yeah, what you have drawn up will work if reversed and put into the basement.dampers in the duct work will allow fine tuning of each room. Just like a furnace

You can move hot or cold air just as easily via a fan for the temperature ranges you find in a home - just insulate the warm air version if you go that route to keep the heat in the air and moved to the new room.

The problem with fans is your going to have to run them 24/7 . How about moving the stove to the center of the house rather than having it at one end(since your moving it anyway. ) Those far rooms will get just about nothing with the stove all the way at one end,fan or no fan. IMO.

It really depends on how well insulated your ducts are and home in general. If toucan put the stove in the same room as the intake you will have more success.

May be easier to install a second stove in the living room.

Do you have a central HVAC system with ductwork already? If so you can move air thru that in the fan on only thru your stat. Moving air to far reaches is always a bit tough.

Maybe consider adding another pellet stove at the other end of the house or yours to a central location as mentioned. Other things that help are fans (box, ceiling and so forth) because it really is all about moving air. That said, it will always be much warmer in the room where the stove resides.

What are your dimensions or SQ FT? I'd entertain the idea of placing the stove in the living room as central as possible and maybe another in the family or great room and use it when you are in there. Use the relocated stove (or new) in the living room as primary.
