Hi-

I am installing a RSF Delta with the Central blower fan and have a couple opinion questions- the areas to be ducted will done so with the ductwork travelling via an unfinished basement.

1. Should I install the fan/blower in the basement for noise issues? (appxly 600cfm) The alternative is to mount the fan right next to the fireplace in an interior chase.

2. Is it better to install the registers on a wall or a floor?

thanks

Ductwork in an uninsulated basement is going to see significant heat losses. The longer the run, the greater the loss. You should insulate (R8) the duct and probably the blower housing if it is put in the basement. Registers should be floor level on the room's outside wall. If there are going to be multiple ducts, you will have to size them so that the blower output is balanced between the multiple locations. It's best not to try to overachieve by installing too many registers.

thank you.

Do you think the typical foil type ducting will be sufficiently insulated?

How does appxly 600cfm sound with respect to the fan?

Yes, you'll want to use the R8 flex duct, not the R5 version. The blower output depends on the system design. Hard to comment without some sense of the layout and number of registers.
