We have been recommended the RSF Focus 320, but there may be something else we should be looking at. Our requirements are maximum output we have a 3000sq ft home all valued ceilings two levels, lots of glass, we like the clean lines of the Focus 320, is there another fire insert out there with a larger viewing window that delivers high heat that we should look at before taking the plunge? also any comparisons out there on either of these two mentioned above that would help with our decision making?

Sounds like you will be heating almost twice the cubic footage due to the high ceilings. Fortunately you live in a warm climate. There are many other large fireplaces on the market made by Quadrafire, Heat n Glo, etc. but both of your choices have a good reputation. Another clean looker is the Valcourt F12 Mundo. Also look at the FPX 42 Apex.

Thanks for the other options, the house is located at 6000 feet, california high dessert, cold winters, hot summers, good output and large viewing window are the main criteria, we currently have an old fire place that burns too much wood without good heat output.
