Running cat insert w/o fan

Have read that it is o.k. to use the insert without the fan running, but should the damper be open or closed?

We are expecting bad storms tonight and have already lost power once. It is not going to be really cold, but I was just wondering, since I also read not to have a roaring fire going in a cat with the damper closed. Not sure which is the best option.

you should be able to burn it like you normally would with the fan off it just wont be putting as much heat into the room.
