Hi everyone,

I decided to go with just insulation around the top of my merrimack. i plan to buy rutland - link below , but have a few questions on use:

(broken link removed to http://www.rutland.com/productinfo.php?product_id=34)

1. i have been told to only insulate the top of the merrimack, is that true?

2. there is about a 3 or 4 inch wide gap between the top of insert and where the damper used to be. Can you use multiple layers of this or is one 1 1/2 layer sufficient. I also ask as i do not want to overheat merrimack and cause damage.

3. i was also contemplating a block off plate but i have been told its overkill if you go with the insulation. I was quoted by my installer 475.00 bucks to install it, he also stated as they sealed off around the top of the chimney - is that true?
