Our Sequoia (DutchWest) 2160 is set up to burn coal (this model also burns wood); it has an 8-inch stainless flue that extends at least 3 feet above the roof, and the flue is clean. I can get a wood fire started easily and it burns well, but once I add coal, evn little by little, the fire goes out--and even if I open the ash pan door and keep the damper open. Or with the damper closed. (The air intakes for wood burning are closed.) Our location is windy.

We inherited the stove with a house purchase, and also inherited a good supply coal, which I'm pretty sure is anthracite. All the gaskets look healthy. Any ideas as to what the problem is? Many thanks, kd cutler

If you don't already have it, here is the manual for that stove.

Thanks. We already have the manual that came with the stove when it was purchased. I've followed the directions exactly on how to burn coal. No luck. Any other thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?
