Hi Folks,

My Mt Vernon insert is 13 years old, runs pretty well, but the last couple years the ash production has been increasing significantly, and I wonder if I may have inadvertently made it worse. It seems to be like the air flow thru the burnpot is too aggressive and is blowing ash out into the fire box.

I'm in the midst of a test of some different pellets, to see if I can improve this, but the only setting that seems like it would have a direct effect on this is flame height adjustment, which I may have changed and forgotten about (sorry)

I get way more ash in the firebox than in the ashpan than I used to. It's changed significantly.

Thoughts,

Thank you,

John

Thank you. Is the flame height largely affected in this case by simply moving the air faster through the burnpot or do you know if other variables are affected?

Thanks,

John

All kinds of things can affect the flame
Type of pellet
cleanliness of the stove and chimney
OAK or not (Tightness of the building)
Others may add more, that's just off the top of my head

Understood

I'm asking about what changes when you change the "flame height adjustment" setting on the Mt Vernon...just the air flow?

All you are doing is giving the fire more air for better combustion
Here is a clip from Friendly Fires explaining flame types and adjustmentent
