Anyone hazard a guess on what percent of stoves are self-installed? And what percent meet code? The Alliance for Green Heat is gathering some info to use during a webinar on the topic. Please take our short poll here on impacts of self-installations. Then, experts affiliated with NFI, CSIA, NCSG and WETT, will assess poll results during a webinar on Oct. 17, 1:00 - 2:30, "Common Problems and Solutions for Self-Installed Wood Stoves." You can (broken link removed to https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_inYaLOWdT6qpGDP).
We had John Gulland slated to speak about WETT, and my assumption was that WETT requirements has resulted in far fewer dangerous installs in Canada, because you need the WETT certificate for your insurance provider. John had to back out so Yvette Aube will speak on the topic. We also have a Native American who inspects and installs stoves on the Pine Ridge Reservation. And we have Mark Humprey from NFI and Byron Schramm from Mid-Town chimney.
Thanks and look forward to comments. Also, please share with others if you can.
