Small, one room stove

Hey Folks,

I'm looking for ideas on a small, one room type stove. I have a larger stove for the rest of the house, but I would like a small stove in my "den" There is already a fireplace and chimney flu there, and I have an SS liner for it.

What would you reccomend? I'm trying to stay on the low cost side of things. I'm not looking for long burns, just some short hot fires to make the den nice and cozy, perfect for a nap in the wintertime.

The stove is going to sit inside my masonary fireplace with all the proper floor protection added, ect. ect.


The fireplace will be nice and open by the time i'm done with it. I would like to be able to heat water on this stove as well..

I am looking for pretty much the same thing. I just rebuilt my fireplace in the living room and am not crazy about lighting fires in an open fireplace.

I have been looking around but dont really have a big budget. I'll let you know if anything seems like it will work.

There was just another thread on this topic last week. You would do well with a small Morso or Jotul.

The small Jotuls are cast iron, very nice, about $800-$1000. For a bargain in steel stoves, try finding an Englander NC13 at Lowe’s for $729, less 10% (buy a coupon online for a few bucks) = $656. Take the 30% tax credit and you’re down to about $460!
