I'm starting a VC Defiant install soon and was looking at stove pipes at northlineexpress and noticed this statement that seems to support the idea that you can connect the stove pipe into an existing class A chimney system at the level of the ceiling.

Double Wall Black Pipe is used from the top of the woodstove or freestanding fireplace to the bottom of the ceiling or wall where it will connect to class-A chimney pipe or a masonry chimney
