So as I was filling my stove today I saw this nugget sitting in the top of my pellets.
[Hearth.com] Something odd?
Should I worry about this or is it normal? I took it out so as to not get it in the stove.
Came from the Walmart MWP pellets that I have been burning.
Thanks fellas

Haven't had that happen, and in year 5 of pellet burning. Certainly wouldn't do a stove any favors.

Is it soft and crumbly, or is it a rock ??????

Butt Nugget

Good call taking it out, I'm sure the auger would not have liked that.

If it is burnable, the Harman will do it, but getting it to the pot is a whole different matter :)

I think you may have saved your auger's life. I don't think that would have even entered in the auger channel. It looks huge! !!!

Looks to me like never mind what it is my question is how did it make in in the bag and what other surprises can one expect to find in a bag of MWPs! Maine pellets I hate to say just don't do it for me being from Maine I would expect to see a much better product! Hell all we have is woods up here if all the manufactures would put out a quality product they would be employing more and selling more !

I fear this since I burn around 225 bags a season and rarely look into the hopper. I think it's only a matter of time until my auger meets it's match, whether its that kryptonite looking thing or a number of other foreign objects which somehow made it into the bag from the mill (eg: car keys, rocks, plastic, screws, bolts, nuts). Some people worry about long pellet lengths, ha!

Well here's an update. I broke it in quarters and put it back in the pellet box. It was made of sawdust and pretty soft with lots of crumbly pieces. Now after seeing everyone's replys I am wishing I had not. But there have been no noticeable side effects. I have my first clean up coming up soon I will be sure to check everything out and verify its all lookin good.
Cheers

Probably got a little moisture thru a small hole in the bag that you didn't even notice ..... it happens ................

By pellet box do you mean hopper?

I haven't found anything like that but have had a couple of bags that got wet on a corner and dried into a clump.. I break into a golf ball size chunk and throw the directly into the firepot one at a time.
