Contacted several of the dealers listed on Pellergy's bulk delivery page for this area and all are at $315/ton for bulk delivery of premium pellets into our pellet bin. Note, this is for bulk delivery blown into the bin, not pallets/bags.

Decent price considering current demand-based gouging going on pretty much across the board in the NH area. Obviously it all depends on the pellet performance. "Premium" doesn't mean much when the Northeast pellets at HD have that word in big letters printed on the bag. I burned a ton last spring when oil prices shot up to $6 and those pellets are anything but premium. I paid $160 for them (with a little creative negotiating) during the spring clearance just before HD realized oil was ridiculous and cancelled the spring clearance. They were worth that price, not much more. HD wants $308 a ton for them in the NH area. Yowza. I just topped off my oil tank at the "bargain" price of $3.89. I bought two tons of Vermonts in early September for $360 each (less than 100 G of oil) , and we'll see where oil is come Feb when those are gone.

Somewhat depends on whether the bin is feeding a boiler, or a stove. Pellet boilers are smart about adjusting their burn for the pellet quality, so aren't as sensitive as stoves about that -- although BTU content is still a real difference.

I got a few tons of Maine Woods blend from Benson's Hardware in Londonderry about a month ago. I think I paid just over 300 per ton and a $35 delivery charge.

I just ordered the pallets from woodpellets.com and it is $409 per ton and $65 for garage delivery.

everything is so expensive now

Same here for price, they delivered this evening, I may have gotten a lower price if I looked around but with 4 fused vertebrae, garage delivery is a must.

$409? Damn! Best not to buy in winter and that supplier has always been very expensive in my experience. I used them once when they were a younger company, before the pricing went crazy. Note, I’m not judging you. You have your reasons.

I have options besides pellets, mainly a heat pump that’ll be solar powered by next season (need a summer to build some kWh credit). I love burning pellets during the coldest part of winter, it just feels great, but if these prices persist it’s a hard no. It’ll probably cheaper to let my backup gas furnace fire when it’s too cold for the heat pump to be efficient. You can bet I’ll have my fuel comparison calculator out when making that decision.

so where did you get your pellets now?

I live in hollis and we are pretty close and the local stove nearby is 399 per ton without delivery....

It depends. I have a couple of tons from the local place you mentioned. I certainly did not pay $399 but I did not buy in December, either. I have several more tons from another local Merrimack dealer that are from the prior season. That dealer was historically reliable and well priced, but they no longer sell fuel (and they lost me as a customer for all service as a result).

Sorry it took so long to reply. Yes, I'm referring to Stove Keepers in Brookline and All Basics in Merrimack. I was wrong to say they stopped selling fuel. I meant to say they stopped delivery. I don't know what All Basics were thinking. They never invested in a proper transport for it (with a small forklift), so probably the labor and time required were killing them. But still, it really pissed me off. Pellets aren't totally fungible and they are non-trivial to move around in quantity. Part of what I expect from a dealer is availability (the option) of high quality, ideally decently priced, delivered fuel. My service business for our two Quad stoves walked. I moved to the other local Quad dealer. I'll not buy another stove from All Basics when the time comes. Edit: If SK is stupidly priced when the time comes to stock up, I will weigh my sourcing options including not burning pellets. When pellets get too close in price to my other heating options, they are not worth the hassle even though I really love that form of heating.

Edit to add: build a little spreadsheet that calculates price per million BTU ($/MBTU) that considers fuel price plus a reasonable guess for your delivery conversion efficiency for your various heating options (pellets, LP gas, heat pump or whatever). You'll never build a perfect model but you can make some reasonable assumptions. This will allow informed purchase decisions. There was one season a few years back when LP was definitely cheaper than wood pellets. That is not the norm but it does happen.
