SSSh Theres a BIG Secret

Picked up a Danson awhile ago and it was raining today so we decided to plug it in to see if it worked.
If a stove shows promise we will clean it up if it looks like it will take some time and parts then we part them out sell the good parts and scrap the rest.

So put a couple of hands full of pellets in the hopper and gave it a go,, Whirled clanked a few minutes with lights a blinking and soon had a nice fire, a few more monents and the convection blower kicked in and it settled down to a nice SMALL fire. Pushed the button and no change, HMM I dawned on me that it might need a Thermostat.

So fired up the computer and it shows a Thermostat Kit The directions are to remove 9 pin connector plug in something and that's about it.

Did a quick search of the internet and it is a BIG SECRET of what kind of thermostat to use, if you have to use one, and how to tell if the acutron II board is set up for a thermostat.

So a few moments of studying the board and I notice 2 pins on the board with nothing attached to them so I jumped them and wala it kicked into high gear!!

Not sure about the install/user manual I downloaded,, It fleetingly mentions a tstat and some obscure setup instructions however everything is working and if I wouldn't have wasted two hours or so looking for instructions the whole project would have taken 15 mins.
Life is good we stayed dry today and found out that we had a working stove.

Looks like it is a big secret on the tstat. Glad you thought to look for and found the pins to jumper. Guess it's a keeper

Or
Accutron IV ??

Are you going to shine it up and put in a new door gasket and igniter like this Pelpro I found?

Yeah so that stove has four running modes. I think what you do is hold down the on button, heat range and blower all at the same time it should cycle through the modes. You want 1 and 4 lit for no tstat.or jump the pins like you did.

Thank's I might add a thermostat later so having the jumper on it for now seems like It will be fine, I'm thinking about putting it in a Cabin that I have so we can have a little heat in there on the cool nites. Found this diagram on a web site seems like a decent stove however the instructions are a bit obscure.

I must be strange, too used to worse directions than those, or had to teach myself enough computer programs that I don't believe I had any difficulty understanding them (although if I believe incorrectly, then I will have to say the directions are obscure ):

Press and hold the Off button. while holding the Off button, it will cycle thru the different modes. Watch which lights go on, compare them to the chart and you will know what mode you are at. The secret is which mode it will start at since you don't know what cycle it was on last. Oh, and then I assume that you just let go of the Off button when you get to the mode you wish to use.

As long as you have it working to your satisfaction, all is good though.

Thanks for the offer MountainSean, At this moment I'm not sure what we will do with the stove, We bought it because it was under $50.

It just seemed strange to me that they mention a thermostat and any information about how to hook one up or type of thermostat is almost non existant on the internet, not a big deal to me but someone not used to dealing with something like this would be left confused for sure. The stove isn't really that old about 6 years I think.

The wired Lux 1500u or 500 T-stat at Lowes with the "swing" setting at 2 degs is what is recommended for pellet stoves. I use the Lowes Iris T-stat with my iphone it also has the swing setting. If you just want a remote TStat the Slytech works.

Or perhaps I could just pick out one of about 50 old round Honeywells that I have in a box They work awsome on a pellet stove. They have a mercury switch in them and will likely work for the next 100 years and cost me 0 dollars, require no maintenance not even a Battery in the next 200 years.
The only type pellet stove they won't work on is if the manufacturer makes a proprietary t- stat.

Our government decided that I should replace good well made working stats with modern junk.

The modern name for this stove is ProPellet, looks almost identical.

I think the acutron II needed a separate module to allow a thermostat to work properly. Truthfully it was a very bad board to begin with. Does yours have electrical tape over the trim control screws on the face? Don't turn those whatever you do. The board will literally explode and wipe out everything for a quarter mile!

No tape, When the stove is running it will stay on low fire until I put a Jumper on the 2 pins then it go to what ever heat range you have selected, So it must be configured as big fire on call for heat and idle down and not shut off when the t stat is satisfied. Apparently any stat with points or even a light switch would control the stove. I suppose the jumper could be left on and simply choose a heat range and let it burn that way. She's on the rough side , It light up in less than 5 mins and burns really nice so we are happy. PIC

Fire looks good, if you have a chance this summer a cheap can of high temp stove paint works wonders!

Interesting, I sort of thought the Patina made the stove more valuable. I can see the For Sale Ad now..... Nice Original Unmolested condition.
