St Croix Hastings problem..

Hi everybody..I'm a long time lurker here and have found the advice given here to be very useful in my short experience with my pellet stove.

So, now I have a problem with my St. Croix Hastings which I bought used about a year ago. It has always been a little quirky and many times it has failed to stay running, coming up with a p.o.f. code now and then. Most of the time a power reset would take care of things and once fired up it would keep running.

I'm assuming there is a control board issue. Now the new problem that I'm having is one where I push the start button, the fans come on for 8-10 second and then the unit powers off leaving a lack of pressure code. I have checked all seals around the glass door and ash pan door and everything looks good..

The manual says the reasons could be a faulty combustion fan or faulty control board. I plan on repair asap, but would really appreciate and advice before I buy either part to fix it.

Keep an eye on the combustion fan when you press the start button. Mine would barely turn, and they're only good for 5 years or so.

Agree with above.
To test the board itself, which I suspect is okay, jumper the vac switch (stove unplugged!) then try again. If no code, the board is okay. Then you have an airflow problem: ash clog, bad motor, etc. A bad vac switch is possible, but rare.

Check that the hopper door is sealed. Also check to see if the exhaust pipe is clear (not congested with ash/soot), the ash traps are clean (to either side of pellet chute and behind ash pan) and the air intake pipe is clean (nothing has been sucked in). All of these can give a pressure code.

Thanks everyone, I have the exhaust fan out and blew it out with compressed air. I'll put it back in and see if that helps.

The exhaust fan and the manifold had a bit of soot on them, though I'm not sure how much would be normal.

Ok, so I re installed the exhaust motor after I blew it clean with air..Now I've got nothing since I plugged it back in. No lights or sounds anywhere. I checked all the connections I could but still have no fans or lights. Could this have been the control board's or motors last gasp? Thanks again.

Success! I took off the control box cover to check the fuse and noticed the large multi connector had come out of it's socket somehow.. maybe when I was taking off the rear cover. Anyway, I'm up and running and I assume that cleaning the motor may have done the trick. Until we meet again, thanks to all who responded!

It could be that the stove needs a VERY good cleaning. There are many post on here about St.Croix stoves.
