Starting my install today.

Finally getting around to installing the Drolet Escape 1800 that I picked up during the Menard's clearance sale. I'm starting from scratch and plan to do all the work myself. Today's project is the hearth pad.

I just finished mocking up and cutting all of the porcelain tile.

The Escape 1800 only requires ember protection, but I'm going to over build just in case we switch to a stove with different requirements in the future. I'll be using a layer of 1/2" plywood screwed and glued to my existing hardwood floors. Then I'll put down a layer of 1/2" Micore 300 followed by a layer of 1/2" Durock and finally the porcelain tile.

It's a corner install. One thing I did that really made quick work of cutting and laying out all the layers was to first cut out my plywood base layer and then take it outside and set it up on my saw horses. From there it was just a matter of placing everything where I wanted it and tracing the lines. Much easier than trying to layout in the house.

Had some friends over today and they helped get the stove in place. I'll measure for the pipe this week.
