It looks like I am missing the chain tensioner peg. Is this as simple as picking the part up at the dealer and putting in place or is this broken?

Did the saw used to have one of the "self adjusting" bars on it? If it is like the Oregon "Intenz" system, there is no peg, as the bar has some internal parts that are supposed to make the adjustment. Not sure what the Stihl setup is supposed to look like.

However looking at the photo, the hole in that metal peice under the bar studs has a bright ring around it, almost like a riveted peg might have once lived there - in which case I'd say something's broken. Probably take it to a dealer and at least ask his opinion about what parts are needed.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. The riveted peg is most likely missing. I will take it to the dealer and see what they can do.

Organic, if no one with actual knowledge posts something I will go look at mine tomorrow and see what you are missing.

Many thanks. It looks like I might have to take to the dealer on Saturday. Hopefully it is good to go on Sunday. I have some logs I would like to get to.

you need a tensioner slide (part# 1123 640 1900). Should be around $6.00 and will take about 5 minutes to install.

Thanks. You are right I was able to get the part from the dealer and install it in a few minutes last week.

Will say it looks from the photo like a less than ideal design... Putting a rivet / threaded joint in a thin part at right angles to a stress load seems like a "design for failure". I would have thought that a cast part or possibly something bent out of one peice of steel would have been stronger. However it was probably a question of manufacturing costs - if it had been a part made in one peice it probably would have been more expensive to produce.
