I was wondering what is everyone's temperature comfort zone for your stove/insert? Between 450-550 degrees?

Thanks

500* - 600* stove front above the door.

It really depends on the stove or insert, construction and thermometer location. In general it's not uncommon for steel and cast iron stoves to run up to 650-750 degrees at peak secondary burn. Some soapstone stoves need to stay under 600 degrees on the stove top. Inserts can be different, especially if the temp can only be measured on the face frame. Some read 100-150 degrees cooler there.

Also depends on how cold it is outside. We usually run our stove at about 550-650 in milder weather and 600-750 when it's very cold.

I have a steel insert that sticks out 10" from face of the fireplace so I put a thermo on the stove-top. I routinely get temps of 650-750 in any weather below about 35.

As BeGreen mentioned different stove types and manufacturers recommend different temps . . . Jotul recommends 400-600 for my Oslo . . . which works out well since I tend to run it between 400-600 with my preference being a bit on the hotter side (500-600) with this frigid weather.

I have run my Jotul Kennebec at 750*F quite a bit. Significant difference in output between 500*F and 750*F. Anything less than 500*F and I don't get the heat I'd like. I have also made the error of not paying attention to it when it was real hot, and been greeted by a glowing top 3 times in the last month, so I am now aiming for 600*F. The only temp statement in my Jotul manual was the usual - avoid overfiring - glowing means it is overfiring - I am getting better at following that statement now.

There is likely some good temp info in the Rockland C550 thread - https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/24713/
