This is my first post here. So here you go.
We have a Suburban Woodchief fireplace insert FP 6 84 WCU, in our home. It was here when we bought the house in 2004. I have never used it due to having twin toddlers at the time. They are older now so I'm considering burning some this winter. Couldn't hurt with an all electric house. I grew up in a home where we heated with a big Earth Stove in the family room. I was chief wood hauler every night. My job was to fill the wood box, while Mom and Dad ran the stove.
Upon checking out the chimney I've found some tuckpointing needs to be done, and I'll probably need to recrown the chimney next year. The flue is clean(doesn't appear to have ever been used much), no build up, only cob webs. There is no pipe coming off of the insert.
So do I burn as is or should I add pipe?
Does anyoune know anything about these stoves?
Where would I get parts?
