Super Cedars change?

Started in to a new batch--got them some time in January (I'd be more precise but I'm addled from snow shoveling).

They smell different (a bit like room fresheners), seem harder to break and don't seem to light as fast/burn as long.

Am I the only one to have noticed? (I did a quick search and didn't find any comments)

Ya I don't think there're as good as they used to be.Mine are softer and don't burn as long and the color has changed for whatever that may mean.When I first used the cedars I would use a quarter cedar to start the fire now I'm using a half to three quarters to start the fire.

I have not changed the ingredients in the Super Cedar. However, our volumes have increased and I do not see every Super Cedar that leaves the facility. The fact that some break easier than others is the one problem I struggle with due too individual manufacturing proccess. Too hard means to much Paraffin (hard to break) and a little harder to start. Too easy to break and not enough paraffin.

When I first developed Super Cedar they were a one time use (1978). Then came the members of Hearth.com wanting to break them for multiple uses so I scored them. This group is a hard bunch to satisfy but I keep trying! If you want them to break easier contact us with your order and state this. I will score them with a utility knife.
If you want them harder state this and I will be sure they arrive as you request.
If you want them just right. Well, you know how that ends!

We've heated with wood over 50 years now and can say without a doubt that the Super Cedars are the very best fire starters we have ever found. In addition, Thomas is a sponsor of this forum so it is good to do business with him. I have seen very slight differences in a few super cedars but have never found any difference in the way they work. As for us, we'll stick with the super cedars.

I know I need to stop sharing mine! I've handed out about a dozen & I know some have resulted in orders. I even gave one to the HVAC guy that was here today, he was trying to figure out how I started a fire so quick & easy without paper. He is an avid burner too. So I gave him a puck w labeled baggy that I wrote the website on. He was as excited if I had given him money I think. I love these things & so does the hubby.

Nothing wrong with paying it forward when you find a great product with even better service/support. ie. Englander Stoves and SC to mention two that I learned of here with plenty of happy recipients of a gifted puck or two. The 100 count box will last me many, many seasons even if I give plenty away and use them whole to start brush and firepit fires. With all the FREE and sound information given here I find it best to support the sponsorship and would pay MORE to get them for that reason alone. I am frugal but not cheap and will pay for quality and support those that are "stand up" and unquestionably made in America.

I am just too happy that I actually am starting to use them again with this recent heat wave we are experiencing. It has been so nice to finally let the stove go out this past 24hrs and we have 5 days of above 35 weather forecast. Lets get rid of some of this snow so I can get back into the woods and start Molly on some long tracks I will be setting out. Her brother in Georgia is already out to 800yds+ on an 18hr old trail of 6oz. of blood. She needs her practice(see the Inglenook)

Not only do they light up quicker and stay lit longer than anything I have tried, I got a free pair of welding gloves with my order this year!
In the long run, I find they are more economical than other firestarters, especially if you buy the box of 100. Not to mention they smell nicer, too!
