I have taken out my woodstove that was placed just outside my fireplace, my wife wants the fireplace back. When I installed my stove
I also installed a 6''ss liner. Now that the stove is removed can I keep the liner in or do I have to remove that to? The other issue to is if I keep the liner
then what do I do for a dampner when the fireplace is not in use?

You will have to remove the liner as well, because it will hamper the draft for the fireplace. For a damper you can get a chimney top damper which has a cable that runs into the firebox and you can open and close it with that. There are a few different styles that are available

Sorry to hear that you are taking out your stove, I can't believe anyone would rather have a fireplace, maybe another stove with a glass door would be the answer. I am pretty sure that the liner has to come out to make the fireplace draw correctly.

Yes curioius.....did the stove you took out have a glass/ceramic door for fire viewing pleasure?

Look at some of the flush mount inserts (FPX, Jotul, Lopi, etc.). That was how I got my wife to agree to go with an insert.

If I remember right this was the 602, right? You might want to show your wife the Jotul F3CB. They make a short leg kit for it. That would give her a fire view and it takes an 18" split for longer fires. That's what is in my avatar to the left. Qualifies for the tax rebate.
