90' oak taken down . its gonna take about 5 loads with my 4x12 and truck bed , on load 2 and havent even dented it or gotten to the trunk . blew a tire on the freeway , no spare... lesson learned. i got two brand new wheels/tires, now i have 2 spares ! kind of fun though. all the rounds were too big in the trailer to use as a block to rest the truck jack on for more leverage to get the flat tire off the ground , so i had to start up the old 61 on the side of rt 90 to cut one in half. talk about urban logging!

This is why I love wood burning. A man (or woman) can live on a property with 50 mature oak trees . Plant 1-2 new every year, and you'll always have a steady supply of wood to heat your home

thanks guys . the trunk was about 3-4' , so the rounds were pretty big. i still have to maul them into 1/4 pieces for easier hauling .
now that ive been looking at it ..... it looks , smells, and cuts like red oak .... but the leaves strike me as a pin oak for sure: thinner, deeper lobes like in these comparisons:

either way , they both burn about the same.... i just find it crazy that a pin oak got this big . but they are fast growers. ... according to the neighbors watching, the tree was planted about 70 years ago , which would lean more to a pin since they grow faster .
who knows... itll burn nice!

Those single axle trailer blowouts suck at highway speeds, I had one on 90 as well. I picked up an el cheapo 3 ton floor jack from Harbor Freight and a spare that I leave in the truck now. Those are some nice looking rounds.

Random thoughts . . .

I always carry a spare tire or two on my trailer since two of the three times I have had a blow out was while I was hauling firewood.

Red oak . . . holy cow . . . haven't burned any yet . . . but this year I got my hands on some and I was blown away at how easy it was to split compared to most of the wood I split . . . I actually split up a good portion of it with an ax since it split so easily. I would love to get my hands on more of this . . .
