The meaning of CTC

CTC or Clearance to Canine is a metric measurement of distance expressed in "paws" and it varies exponentially depending on stove temperature.
In the following example a Quadra Fire 4100I has a CTC of about 4 @ 300 degrees F. At 350 degrees F that distance is increased to over 100.

Unfortunately I had the surround off for some clean up and maintenance - so I included a pic with surround just so you can see the stove in its true form.

It stands for clearance to cats in my house. Two of them get within one paw of the stove, from underneath Crazy animals. In fact one of em is parked dead center in front of the stove right now watching Caveman TV. That's ma boy!

Our clearance to cats is about 50 paws away from the Summit.

They do look a little sooty in the pictures, but they really only have some of the white haze on them - just a function of the flash I think.

Cat clearances are measured as CTF (Clearance To Feline), not to be confused with the infamous Wood To Feline measurement.

I have a couple cats that do the same as your cat . . . using the hearth as a "pillow" . . . one other just lays off to the side of the hearth and one is typically found right behind the woodstove.

Actually one is black, one is orange . . . our female Manx however is the one who sits behind the stove on the hearth and she is white . . . she stays pretty clean though . . . not quite as messy back there.
