Please help. I have been a wood burner for 25 years have had two extra large dutchwest cat. Stoves trying to get away from them Looking at the new cape cod by lopi does anyone have any. Experience with this stove also looking at the jotol Oslo. Not sure if that is big enough for my needs. I am really concerned about burn time. This is my only source of heat Can any one give so advice. Thanks

Welcome. It's a new stove with a limited track record.There are several stoves in this class if you are also looking for alternatives. If you want a similar look consider also the BK Ashford, Quad Isle Royale, PE T6, and Jotul F600.
How much sq. footage are you trying to heat? Open floor plan? You had two stoves running at once? Cat stoves give the longest burn times, if you have to be away from home for extended periods and can't reload as often.
I had one.
It had many failed parts within the first year. Then it cracked, I choose to replace it with an Oslo instead of another cape cod.
If you really want extended burn times, look into Blaze King stoves. They are impressive heaters with unparalleled burn times.

The Cape Cod is a very handsome stove, although there have been 'reported issues' with its reliability. It is important to note that the company attributes a large % of the issues to operator caused problems due to over firing and inexperience with the hybrid technology (this is not necessarily my opinion). For a very reliable stove with fantastic customer service, classic good looks, gentle soapstone heat, and long burn times, check out the Woodstock Progress.

don't be so sensitive..............I clearly said it was NOT necessarily my opinion. I have no way of knowing what caused the issues.
Also the Cape Cods iron castings come from China. The bosses were not cast thick enough and the bolts are located too close to edge of the casting and this caused the cracks. It has nothing to do with overfiring in this instance. Travis Industries is supposed to be addressing this issue and casting in Germany. Probably at the Morso foundry.? I don't believe these changes have been made yet though.

Well, lets hope they get it right. I do like the way the enamel Cape Cod looks and the hybrid concept.
I love the way it looks too! It heated great too, its a real shame.
I to am interested in hybrid design, I'm also curious what's next with straight cat stoves. Lots of new stuff on the horizon!

I am heating 2,000 sq. feet single level open floor plan well insulated home . I did not have two stoves running at the same time . My first one had the solid door in front I traded it in for one that had a glass front I am away from home for long periods of time so burn time is very important I don't want to make a $ 2,500.00 mistake. Thanks so much for all the responses

Off topic... but I remember when I took Lopi factory tour I got the opportunity to speak with Kurt Rumens (president). He was more interested in the visual aspect of the fire in wood stove over burn time. That may be a reason why you don't see BK burn times in Travis Industries product. To be honest the BK burn times aren't as important to me as my wood stove is located in a recreational property and really enjoy the visuals. The stove still puts out a ton of heat and I am also saving a considerable amount of firewood compared to the old smoke dragon I used to have.

I like to interact with my stove twice a day, once in the morning after my first cup of coffee, and again at night just before bedtime. Burn times of 12 hours are all that I need, although my stove can go a lot longer. And I too really enjoy watching that fire dance at night with a glass of wine or fine scotch. It is very soothing and entertaining.
It may be because the mixed use of energy logs but my Endeavor burn times are 10-12 hours. Would I want longer? Sure.. but this is 4-6 hours longer than my old smoke dragon so seems like an eternity.
Another important thing is a left side loading door. Why don't more companies make stoves with side loading doors they are so much more convenient to load also all my wood is cut at 20 inches
Seems like we should be careful with a single, very early production data point. I was told that the foundry was changing and that they were switching to a European foundry. Do you know if the problems still exist of if they have been remedied?
Different installs have different requirements. Side loading doors don't work well for corner installs or for fireplace installs unless the fireplace is fairly wide.
Don't know for sure. The factory reps did nothing but blame me for issues with the Leyden and then the Cape Cod. They would listen to nothing I said and reluctantly offered to replace a cracked stove that was less than a year old. He even laughed when I mentioned hearth.com.
I do know that both the large and the new small flush hybrid have a totally different baffle design. They have a 5/16" welded in steel baffle with the same thin SS baffle ontop of it. Then the cat sits above that. On the cape cod, there is only the thin SS baffle between the tubes and the cat. It warps badly on the cod but not in the inserts. I would expect to see something similar on the second generation cod.?
