Reminded me briefly of a herd of horses thundering around ....

All was well. Murphy & I, out on patrol (this was taken at an angle, they are not "listing" as they appear to be). I was saying to myself "the boys are gonna love this, I gotta get a pic :)!!" I've been working on these stacks since the end of April.

I don't think I would be surprised that fell over. How tall was that in the center? I would be afraid to do that cause it could seriously hurt someone if it fell on them.

More like... stack to the inside in this type of job, not the outside :confused:
 
Maybe it was indeed listing.
That happened to me this summer. Also in the middle. 6.5' tall stack. Trying to conserve space. Have to tune them up once in a while
 
I don't think I've ever had a stack fall over short of taking the wood out from the bottom or stacking it poorly from the get go.
 
I was out back, stackin', Cold Beer, Burn Barrel burnin', and music playin'.....this is what it looked like in the morning.....lasted about a month

I stacked up a tall crooked stack once in the dark with a headlamp. It still looks bad, but I've tuned it up over the years.
 
Don't ya hate it when that happens?

I've had stacks topple, mostly at the ends and mostly with green wood. Seems to occur during or after a heavy rain storm. If they're leaning to the side or bulging outward I can correct the lean before the whole thing goes head over teakettle.

Was sitting in the living room when we heard one fall. Sounded like truck with a loud muffler in the yard. That stack actually fell twice. After the second fall I doubled up on the turret or crib stacking at the end. It hasn't budged since.

I know, it was straight as an arrow the night you stacked it with all that cold beer.....:cool:

I think Dixie needs to get Dennis to come to LI for a stacking class.....:)
 
I have had it happen twice Dix. Totally pissed me off.

Had some problems a couple years ago but since I've made more stable bases for my stacks, haven't had any crashes (fingers crossed.)
 
ugh, stacking is the only part of wood heat that i just flat-out dislike. Re-stacking is the only part that I purely HATE!
 
I've tried to save a stack from going and it's useless the more you try to stop the landslide the worse it gets. Just let it go!. It sure looks like a lot more wood lying on the ground than it does stacked.:confused:

Been there done that too! Agreed on HATING the re-stack also

I get a good feeling stacking; It's the culmination of all the hard work, the hacking my way into the woods, bucking, hauling and splitting, that it took me to finally get the wood drying. :cool: But no, I don't like to do it twice...

I've got a re-stack job too.. I was mowing the lawn today and noticed that half of my apple and pear smokewood fell out of the rack.... all in all not a huge deal, it's less than a 1/4 of a chord, but still annoying.
 
Still holding :)

I made room on the deck. Already started stacking there.

Figured as I'm not planning on having any company this summer, it'd be fine to sit outside with a glass of wine, play some Eric Church, and watch the wood dry in the evenings [Hearth.com] The Unmistakable Sound Of Your Fire Wood Stack Falling Over....

Stacking I don't mind. It's tedious work but it's the last step in the process. When it's done, I'm done. :)

Restacking just irritates the heck outta me though. Makes me feel like I didn't do the job right the first time.
