My gal pal and I are interested in utilizing the NYS incentive for conversion to efficient pellet stoves when replacing propane heating systems. One of the stoves available to us is the Enviro Chatham insert that we could have installed into the existing fireplace/chimney. I'm not finding very much feedback about these stoves and have been a real fan of the Harman Stoves thus far.

Do any of you have direct experience with this stove or a free standing Chatham? I'd love to find a Harman dealer who is involved with the incentive program.

Thanks for any informed replies.

Hugh

Hey Hugh. This is Jeff. I’m the person that gave the estimate. The Chatham is made by Sherwood industries (Enviro) for the Hudson River Stove Company. We have installed roughly 150 Enviro units thus far. In two years we have replaced one convection fan. There’s many reasons we chose Enviro. First is the full 2 year warranty on all electrical components. We also liked the customer service and the cost of replacement parts. Lastly, the price is good. I’m sure others will chime in at some point.

I forgot to add the Accentra starts at around $4500.00. We don’t have a lot of people come in wanting to spend that kind of money. We can offer the Chatham Cast with enamel finish for 2899.00. I have no problem getting the Accentra if that’s what you prefer.

Jeff,

Thanks for chiming in. How about a P43 set up in front of the fireplace rather than an insert?

Thanks,

Hugh

That fireplace is one of the nicest I have seen. Putting a freestanding stove in front of it would not look good. Plus you would still need the liner and something would need to be fabricated to close off the chimney at the smoke shelf.

I have been an Enviro fan for over 10 years now, have worked on Harmans, Quads, Whitfields, Lopi and others. I'm not the biggest fan of the M55 (I think it may have been rushed onto the market), the Empress, Meridian and Maxx are my favorites. Hudson River when they first came out offered some stoves that were a bargain at the time. When they teamed up with Sherwood (Enviro) and put their burn engines in their stoves, I became a big supporter of the line again. The Davenport and Kinderhook are great heaters for the money. Enviro makes good pellet stoves and their wood stoves are fantastic too. If you want a Harman, get one. But an Enviro is a good stove too. Remember to get quality pellets, set the air control correctly, clean the stove appropriately, you'll be warm.....

We actually have a 1994 Enviro coming in Friday that is still being used. That ones going in the showroom. As I said earlier, we have had great luck with the Enviro line. With the program in NY we’ve sold over 100 with only one problem. Thanks for chiming in.

Hey JR- well I was one of the happy people when Enviro started doing the burn engines for HR stoves. The original Saranac stove I still have bad dreams about. It was a nice looking, very warm stove. Then the snapped auger motor pins, the warping burnpot design, the convection blower and overtemp switch relocations- ughhh. I did like the Westpoint model, it seemed more reliable. But the Davenport and Kinderhook Enviro engines were great. We had a couple of Saranacs that worked ok, but we had a group of terrible ones... So bad that our shop was changing them out Enviro EF3 models for some customers who demanded to return them. The EF3 was one of my favorite stoves too...
