Ignore my bags stuffed in to block the wind from coming in.
If a put the stove pipe connector on here it will be 5.5" from the joists. (The smaller end of the connector will be 7.5" from the joist but I don't think I can use the small end of the connector to measure.)
So, can I put a 30 degree off set class a chimney on here (instead of the 45 degree double wall stove pipe i had originally planed on) This would mean the stove pipe connector will be about 10" from the joists.
I see no reason why I can't continue with the class A pipe inside the house as long as I'm going downward here and not horizontal. I'm just not see examples of it anywhere. but I suppose someone could go though the wall on the main floor and continue the class a chimney pipe down to the basement as which point they put on their stove pipe connector, right?
I guess i'm really questioning myself because I've read a bunch of posts where people have this issue with being too close to the ceiling joist and no one is offering this as a solution. Everyone says "heat shield" not "continue the Class A pipe down away from the joists"
I am also putting on the heat shield but a heat shield alone isn't going to be good enough.
