Today's Pellet Festivities

I was down to 15 bags of Lignetics and finally got a chance to go get some pellets. This was the first chance I have had to really flog my diesel Jeep Liberty.

2.4 Tons of La Crete Softwoods+1500lbs of trailer. The Jeep pulled it like a champ, but the trailer's brakes apparently were not working which was a little scary.

Yup, they are electric but I wish they were surge.

Its my cousins trailer, it was my fault for not asking if they worked. It towed it pretty well, but I only got up to about 45mph since I took all back roads and only went a few miles. Technically the US version is only rated for 5000 lbs but the Euro model, which is mechanically identical, is rated fro 3500kg/7700 lbs. I heard that it was related to reduced engine power related to US emission requirements and the use of the EGR.

I didnt know about it until last spring when I saw one driving on RT 2 here in MA. I did some research and found out that they were never sold brand new in New England because they did not meet state emission requirements. This one is an '06 that I found in Pennsylvania with 42000 miles. You can bring them into the state used and pass inspection. They also made the Grand Cherokee with a 3L Mercedes diesel in 07-08.

They probably do work......do you have a brake controller hooked up under your dash within your reach while in the driver seat? Something like below pic?

If not you need one and that should make the brakes on the trailer work......just need to make sure everything is wired correctly and test after installing. Best bet is to head to a trailer dealer and let them install it if your unsure of your capabilities with wiring....usually it's a plug and play deal as far as under the dash goes.

I found when borrowing trailers that many have not had the shoes adjusted. Just start rolling and manually apply brakes and should start to slow down and may even skid if on gravel. If not, well better get some help. Dexter has a good youtube video on trailer brake adjustment.

Not to get too much off-topic here, but the CRD Liberty's were only offered a year or two in the US because they did not sell well. However, they provided excellent fuel mileage/towing capabilities and are (or at least, they were) fairly rare and held their value).

I have not, I was going to buy some Maine Wood's but they sold out Friday. I read MANY very positive reviews on the LaCretes and went for it.

Starting MSRP on those diesel Grand Cherokees is $47000. $7500 for the engine upgrade alone. You could buy a lot of gas with that.

This is true, but I dont think those buying almost $50k Jeeps are worried about that. For my own use I would consider the new diesel Jeeps simply for longevity, mpg and resale value when I'm ready for a new one. And I will consider one in 3 years when we purchase our new family vehicle right along side a Tahoe, Yukon Denali and Escalade.

I was one if those guys that would do half of ton in my envoy.Mind you buying it a half tin at a time. There were times homedepot or lower were sold out then when there was a few bags. I almost got in to it with a guy who wanted some but was behind me.or drive 4 towns over.Till a friend gave me some great advice.$65 Home Depot delivers many as you want for that flat rate at the front of my garage .Got three tons put them myself In the basement.
