Too Hot

Here we are...almost back to burning season...and wanted to ask y'all something I noticed towards the end of last season. I'm real excited about firing up but will not until I get some professional advice. At the end of last year I was in the attic and noticed that insulation was against the double walled pipe that runs thru the ceiling. How much heat can that insulation take?...or should I be asking...should that insulation be against the pipe...as it's pretty darned hot...if I remember...too hot to the touch! Thanx...Jeff

Are you talking about double walled stainless steel pipe? Mine doesn't get very hot.

You need an "attic insulation shield" up there to maintain proper clearance to combustibles.

Yes...it's double walled SS pipe...my ceiling is only 9 ft tall and when I run the temp of the stove 7-800 degrees...that pipe is quite warm. The insulation is the pink stuff. The store that installed this 2 seasons ago is a retired fire chief...you think he'd know...but they are out of business after 30 some years lol

Looks to me like the burnt joist is reflecting off the stainless?? What is above that "rain cap?" Is that galvanized pipe?

So...I'm assuming...if I go to a local stove shop...they'll have this box available for the joist dimension I have?
