Anyone know about these pellets? Just picked up a couple bags to test the other day and they seem to burn well enough, but because they're obviously rebranded, you never know what might be in the bag when you get your batch.

Any input would be appreciated.

Never bought from TSC so not much help BUT, smart thing was to Only buy few Bags to test.. that way u don't get burned.. no pun intended..
btw:
Best recommendations are going to be yours after burning in your stove...use other posters opinions as a guidline.

I was told at my TSC that it could be any one of four brands depending on when you pick up your order. I know NEWP supplies one or more TSC's in my area.

One rumor has It that is a dummy upc that is rumored to be green supremes

I wrote down the upc no. from the blue/white bag at my local tsc (in W. Mass.) but can't seem to find it's maker. Wish I had my phone with me so I could have taken a pic to be sure I got the number right.
It is:

Would anyone know who makes this pellet?

I personally saw a shipment of NEWP's/Green Supremes being loaded onto a truck at the pellet mill in Jaffrey, NH. The pallets were wrapped in white plastic and "TSC" was in block letters (black) about dead center horizontally and just above center vertically on one side of the pallet.

Have you burned any of these? They were going for a decent price. I picked up a ton for my mother in law for 260$ but she just buys whatever is cheapest.

I did buy two bags, and was pleasantly surprised that they were burning nicely in my Austroflam, which is why I asked the question about who the manufacturer was.

I burned over a ton of the tsc. Red and white bags last ur and they were great! I just picked up a ton of them today but I did see the other brand they had also they had some called pro pellet.any one have any input on those?

I believe some forum members have been satisfied with Pro Pellets - haven't used them myself.

I burned my first bag yesterday. Hard to tell with one bag but seems like the heat is good but it seems to have a higher amount of ash than I'm used to. Also, the ash is very dark, almost black. Note that the stove was running at minimal flame for pretty much the whole bag so that could have affected the resultant ash.

Burned some Curran blend early last season ---- I will avoid them this year although in fairness I can not speak to the burn of the hardwood.

Did you notice you had to do a lot more thorough cleanings with Currans? Obviously you'd have to dump the ash pan more often but what about the need for more deep cleanings of the tubes, etc? I have two more tons to pickup and if these Currans are excessively labor intensive to use I may opt for a different pellet at TSC.

The Serenity is a no frills burner. The combustion pathway leads directly out the back through the blower and into the chimney.

I wire brush the heat exchanger twice weekly and vacuum all surfaces in the stove up to the exhaust blower twice weekly.

With Curran the ash pot was always full those two days and the exchanger surfaces had significant build up of carbon. During the one extended period that I burned Curran non stop it also became necessary to clean the chimney o to decreased vent capacity (a lot of ash at the exit side of the blower and in the bottom of the T. I burned perhaps 1/2 ton of straight Currans during that period.

Lacrete and Platinum left less than half the ash during the bi-weekly cleaning and although I cleaned the chimney every ton or so I probably could have extended that by half.

Also the glass with Currans would blacken within hours as opposed to a haze after a couple of days with the other two noted.

In addition the heat from Currans is subpar. That is a subjective observation though.

I personally avoid Currans blend at this time.

Again these observations relate to the blend. I can not speak to the hardwood or the softwood they produce.

I don't think I did anything exta maintenance wise besides dump the ash can more often and scrape the hard stuff off burn pot weekly - oh, and the window got a lot more crap on it. But as for deep cleaning, it didn't seem to cause more debris in the airway paths - probably because the ash was too heavy and dropped out of the air stream quickly. I do burn mostly cheap pellets (I was splurging by buying the Currans - at $30 more per ton than what I normally spend), which means I have to do a deep cleaning every 3-4 weeks anyway - so YMMV.

I have heard a few people say they like Currans - but they have all been burning the softies (I have only seen the blend, not the straight soft or hard wood pellets)
