True or False - Pellets Ruin your Burn Pot

Hello,

I am on the 2nd full year of my Enviro Milan, it was installed in January of 2012. The other day while cleaning I noticed there was a small hole in the burn pot and some cracking in the same area. Basically it looks like the heat burnt through the pot and created the hole. I called the dealer and the warranty has expired. The dealers are great and they stand by everything they sell. Anyway, he told me that if the pellets I buy are bad quality this can happen. He said that some bad pellets have salts and other stuff in them that can corrode the burn pot.

It seems like a burn put should last longer than 2 years. Is it the pellets I'm buying that could do this?

I don't have your stove but looked up the warranty online since I'm bored with the Grammy Awards. Is it your burn pot or burn pot liner? The burn pot itself says "limited lifetime" 7 years. The liner is 2. Either way, that seems ridiculous that pellets could burn a hole. That's a pretty weak stove if that is the case. What are you burning?

I have the same issue with my burn pots. (Different stove) I have to replace mine almost every year. The weird part this year is it burned through the pot in the very far left side where there is less pellet burning going on.

Edit: I should also mention the rest of the burn looks brand new....so I am.guessing it is a weak point from manufacturing.

Probably a flip of a coin. I have a ecoteck thats suffering some pot issues as it gets screaming hot with its cleaning cycles but the Harman has a steady feed and no problems but both have close to the same tray thickness. Someone posted a flame guide that looked like someone forgot to add any nickel, moly etc and looking like a chunk of iron oxide.

My burn pot is happy as a clam as if on the flats at Phippsburg Maine on the Kennebec river at high tide.

I have a Breckwell P23 that I've been burning for 7 winters. I have a crack down the middle of my burn pot this year. I'm burning the same pellets as last year. I have lots of heat and little ash but the burn pot is completely filling up with ash and pellets after about 12 hours. Everything is adjusted. I turn off the stove and empty the burn pot every day. I contacted Breckwell and they said I need to replace the burn pot. That's a $100 bill but I have no choice. The crack is there. Is the crack and the fill up related? I don't think so because the crack has been there a month or more and the fill up has just started this week. So what is causing the burn pot to fill up with ash and pellets? Is there a blockage in my chimney pipe? I can see the air being sucked into the burn pot so I think it's getting plenty of air.

Sorry, this was the burnpot liner, and I think I was just outside the warranty. Coincidentally, this is the 1st year I burnt "cheap" pellets. I usually spend a little extra and buy top quality pellets. This year I got my pellets at Lowes. I've been burning Timber Heat and Natures Own all year. Good pellets but a lot of ash...

Thanks for the replies guys. It seems like every stove is different and I'm not the only one that has the issue. I guess I'll just need to shell out $87 every 2 years for a replacement.

Think of the investment as what you save against propain at the going price around the country of $4 or the having heat that those on NG around my state don't have because the NG line blew. A picture of the burn pot would help in trying to determine if the pot is carbonizing from high heat etc.

There's a bean counter somewhere that has determined that they last 2 years thus the 2 year warranty. That's almost like a consumable product like buying ink cartridges for your printer.

Probably why I bought a laser printer and refill my own cartridges. I can do math too. 1/5 the cost. A good welder didnt take long to pay off either.

No burn pot issues here. Sounds like cheap China materials (most of the parts are out of China) are way substandard. Mr. Wang putting mud in the production process....

If all the holes looked like the top (I assume that's metal , not carbon) then its getting along and will need replacing soon...that crack isn't good either...

Almost the same issue with our Elena. Just cleaned up the area abit and spotted some stainless on the area and has not been growing.

I replaced the burnpot. The burnpot still filling up with pellets. Finally discovered tonight that the damper isn't working. I don't know how to attach it but have shut down the stove for now. Also the handle on the door isn't working smoothly. When trying to open the door by turning the handle, I pick up the front of the stove. Not sure why it is working so hard. I replaced the digital board in the Breckwell P23 this year and thought it was going to be a smooth year but is not. Any suggestions.
