Ultimate scrounge! Will it burn?

I have access to a lot of these in the woods near our camp.

This dandy was only about 6 miles from camp. Not to bad of a drag to get it out.

Should be well "seasoned" by now....right?










I am NOT sharing with anyone either!


Gotta get it cut, split and stacked for this winter yet.

Still seems a little green.

No you should pass. With that much moss that piece has been on the ground for a long time. I'm sure its wet and filled with bugs. You can do better than that on a scrounge.

Looks good, it's been preseasoned in log form for about 15 years. You should be able to split it and burn it right off

that would basically be soil in the shape of a log by now..haha...a lady up my road offered a heap of oak on her property and when i turned up it looked very similar to your photos...i think she was after someone to clean up her yard for free

No kidding, two years ago, just for giggles and grins, I cut some stuff that looked almost just like that. It turned out to be red oak with the sapwood completely rotted off leaving nothing but the heartwood. The remaining heartwood was as hard as stone and was still around 35% moisture. Now, not all of the logs I cut into were as good, but I did get about 53 splits out of it. I think I may have even posted pictures here. I'll let you know next winter how it burns.

Well, guys after a few hours of hard work, (and a long walk), I finally got a few of them out to where I could get them split.

The X27 just bounced off of that log and the maul was useless.

Had to break out the hydraulics,,,

So glad I opted for the 22 ton splitter instead of a smaller electric unit.
The Ariens finally was able to get the job done....























Anyone need any fishing bait?
