This coal was dirty stuff. It was "soft" coal loaded with contaminants and very high sulfur content. It was cheap and many plants not designed for it had big problems transitioning to it. More than few plants had severe fires due to dusting issues.

The railways are going to have a lot of extra space on the tracks soon. Close to 9 billion tons of this dirty coal has been mined in the past 25 yrs.
