I have the opportunity to pick up a roughly 4 year old accentra insert for $1700. Does that sound like a good deal? Also what are some things I should look for when buying the stove?

When buying anything used ask a lot of questions check it over good don't buy someone else's problem but if it's in good working order a new one costs $5000 installed so sounds like a good deal.i would also have them start it up and show you how it works before you buy

I talked with the guy last night. It is 5 years old, he just had it serviced. I even talked with the company who serviced it. They just did a thorough cleaning and said everything was working.

I will go check it out and see it run, but is there anything to watch out for in the older models or even newer ones that I should check out before buying or be more concerned about? I am just not sure of the common failure points. I will have to drive a couple of hours to go check it out, so I just wanted to make sure it was a good deal at that price point assuming it works.

I bought a 7 year old Accentra insert 2 months ago for $1500, so based on that I'd say it's a good deal. So far I'm happy with mine. The only issue is the Stove Temp - Room Temp fan control which needs to be replaced. It works but has to be adjusted carefully. I understand this is a common problem and is relatively cheap fix. I already got the part online for around $10. I'm going to wait until spring to pull the control board and get it soldered in.

a control board is around 200, auger motor a little over 100, combustion blower around 130, the parts you may look at for working aren't what i'd be interested in. replacement electrical/mechanical parts are not that expensive in comparison to the stove. I'd be looking at the metal, surface rust is normal and wont hurt anything and is easily cleaned. I'd be looking for cracks in the heat exchanger and other critical metal pieces that make the stove from a liability/safety aspect to still use standpoint a boat anchor.

Don't see how you can go too wrong even if it needs some fixing.

I bought it for $1700. I got the stove yesterday, everything worked. We let it burn until the blower came on. They even loaded it on my trailer. Cleaned it out with the air compressor outside yesterday, sat the frame in my fireplace. Going to get the chimney cleaned before it goes in.

Welcome to the Harman Crowd! You won't have to look hard for friends Nice stove. $1,700 is a good deal around here. I know where you live and am in the same market area. I just bought a second Harman PC45 about the same age as yours 11/21/14 in Adams County Ohio out Rt. 32 for $1,600 which I consider a good deal. I am across the moat (OH River) in Rabbit Hash, KY just south of Florence and Union, KY. Not real close but not far at all. Have an Uncle that lives in West Chester.

Good Luck with it and You will love that stove. They are quality units. Get some Somerset pellets. Good pellets and they should be local to you. Tractor Supply TSC and Lowe's carries them here. Enjoy the heat. PM me if you need to since I am pretty local. I am a rookie too but have learned quite a bit. Many good helpful people here with your exact stove. BTW, where did you have to drive to for it and how did you find it? Harmans are hard to find for sale anywhere around here used. They rarely pop up from what I've seen. You will know why soon. I've only seen two or three listed within 4 hours drive time from me in months. I also know of some good fairly local Harman dealers if you ever need them.

Just a quick tip: Pick the temp you want on the dial. Go auto ignite toggle up, feed rate 4, room temp mode to get you up and running fast. I just threw you a bone there! Returning the favor these guys straightened me out on in Oct. Then you can play around with adjustments and settings later. I'll be happy to help because our temps and weather is identical for the most part. You probably won't though as many just like that set up. All personal preference. I do jockey mine some and figured out some stuff there.

Disregard I just saw you already have a 38 but it's good to have a "local" Harman Crowd person.

Bought it just outside of Hippie Town Ohio (Yellow Springs). If you have ever been to Young's Jersey diary, the huge farm that makes their own ice cream it was about two miles down the road from there. I am really happy with my smaller insert, so I am excited to get the Accentra hooked up and ready for some really cold weather.

I have looked and have had trouble finding any Somerset pellets close to me, Lowes, HD, and TSC don't. I have what is left of a ton of Cheat River(lowes) and a ton of another (from a local feed store) can't remember the name, they are both okay, but I have never burnt somersets so I have no comparison point.

I've been to Mellow - Yellow Springs too. It's been awhile back. College town isn't it? Antioch? Vague here. I went up there to some motorcycle shop or nearby if I remember correctly. Enjoy those stoves. I am sure you will. The Sets I have are great. You could run down to NKY. (not too far). Check at Lowe's 859-442-9333 in Highland Heights at the end of I-471 out of downtown Cincy. Make a left there at NKU and they are on the right about a 1/2 to 3/4's of a mile. It would be worth a trailer trip possibly. I know the Florence store has them and imagine Highland Hts. too. Are you about 30- 45 minutes to downtown? Or out a ways in Morrow?

Used stove prices are all over the place. I picked mine up cheap. It's a chain drive though. I believe the direct drive is preferable.

Yep that's it. I passed a 70 y/o crowd with walkers on the way back with "Hugs not Bombs" signs.

Is the chain visible on the back? I don't remember seeing a chain anywhere.

yeh its visible with the back cover off. If you dont see it it is probably direct drive. You're going to want to clean the fines out of the fines box before you install this. It will be much easier.

Guess they've been hanging their for some time now. Dropping acid and protesting on walkers is not a good mix! Not to get political here but I think most Americans could use a good dose of reality. Last time I went up there was in 1999 and it was just like that back then. Never saw so many chics with hairy legs and armpits anywhere before or since. Many of them redefined "granola." What I saw was more like grungenola, but to each their own. There were some very cute girls but the Sasquatch hair kit stuff needed to go IMO. LOL! Just my personal preference.

I know it has been a while. Finally got the chimney cleaned then I installed the stove it has been running great. I have been running the P35i and the Accentra simultaneously on temp mode at about 67 now instead of constant burn on the p35i. My house temp has been much more even throughout (No cold/hot spots) and I have used virtually the same amount of pellets I was using before just in the P35i. I do use more pellets on nights when the P35i would have not been enough to keep my house warm. On warmer days I am using the same amount of pellets.

Forgot to pull out the blocks I use to roll it it and out underneath before I shot the picture.

Just in time for the heat wave bro! LOL! No complaints about that. At least you beat me. My PC45 still isn't installed but will be within the next 2 weeks since I have to leave for an out of town job Feb 1st. Plus you are now ready to go for the next cold snap and you and I know it's just a matter of time. We still have every bit of 2 1/2 months of heating to do and that's if April plays nice. I've seen it snow here in April. Been awhile but it does happen.

I got it in just before the last cold snap ended. I have both on now even with it being warmer to keep the house more evenly warm. Like I said can't tell any difference in pellet usage. I am definitely all set now. All 3 fireplace filled.

My PC45 still isn't installed but will be within the next 2 weeks
I followed you so I expect to see the update when it goes in.
