Hi,
I live in a townhouse where I have installed an Enviro M55 Pellet stove in the basement. The townhouse has three levels (Basement, main level and upstairs). The chimney is over 30 feet from basement all the way to the roof of the house.
My question is whether I can use my old chimney for outside air intake. The manual indicates that the outside air intake is not required in my home as it is 30 years old and not as air tight as newer houses. The stove is venting its gasses through a hole in the side of the house (through the pipe where an old gravity fed oil stove used to be and then horizontally through the chimney and then out the side of the house.
So basically, this leaves the chimney unused. There is a small hole in the brickwork near the basement floor. In theory I could attach a metal vent pipe from my pellet stove into this hole.
Is this an option for providing fresh air from the outside into the combustion chamber to improve efficiency?
