I am nervous to start messing with the settings other than the auto settings. I think I have a lazy flame but am new to this. I have ash building up on the back firebrick. My model only has the A BC buttons. The manual is not clear on what these do. Any help would be appreciated. I just cleaned it well two days ago.

It is 10 years old. I think I have cleaned everything. I remove the metal things in the bottom and use a bottle brush bent to get behind the wall.

I use a dryer vent brush and set up an old chunk of hose on an adapter for the Elena but stoves do tend to have different exhaust pathways inside. For the exhaust venting for my stove, it works on hours (1,000). It works out to about every ton. Not sure how much fly ash gets exhausted on the US stoves. How much have you burned?
Edit: What vent configuration do you have? up & out, out & up, straight out? Do you have an outside air kit (OAK) hooked up?

Out and up with a clean out T is what configuration I have. We have burned probably just shy of a ton.

Should clean out the exhaust then when you change settings your getting a better idea of the changes...
As to the settings, make a record of the original starting point and allow for 1/2 hour for any noticeable changes in function of the stove... you can always go back to the starting point. Check record of what exact changes you make, every time you make them.
Your manual should have basic info on settings. Mine does tunnel the pellets, but it doesn't bridge them (by this i mean, it continues to feed) like a hopper should. It doesn't stop feeding and go out.
Something that helps me tremendously is the fact that ive got a 4 bag hopper for mine. had it custom made at Local fab shop. Cost me 100 bucks and looks like OEM and functions like OEM. Its a god sent for cold weather. When im running HR1, i fill it up on Friday evening and check it on Sunday evening. lol

That is usually from the pellets. My stove only has bridged so far with Trebio pellets. I mostly use Spruce Pointe, Lacrete, Okanagan platinum
