Good morning,
New guy, here. We’ve recently installed an old VC Intrepid I that has the coal conversion kit (has shaker grates). When I began restoring it, it had firebricks on the sides. I replaced them. My question, however, is are they required for burning wood? Couldn’t find anything about them in the manuals. I ask because this stove allegedly takes 16” logs, but with the bricks in place, there’s only 15 1/2” between them.
Anyone have any thoughts? We have no intention of burning coal, we are a wood burning household. And, if they are not needed, it would be great to be able to fit a longer log in the firebox.
Let me know what y’all think, and thanks in advance!
