Venting Horizontal, above a pergola

I am working with a customer and he is building a very large fireplace 6' wide x 4' tall. His exhaust is going up 3' and then Horizontal 4' out through a wall using 14" Class A pipe He will be installing an Exhaust Fan, the manufacture says 2 will be needed. If this gets approved, this outlet will be venting horizontally about 6" above his wood pergola.
Money seems to be no issue with this home, he has an architect drawing this up, I just don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling on this one. Looking for some OPINIONS from others.

It doesn't sound like it would even look good. Plus, don't plants grow on pergolas, and be flammable, especially after it dies back for the winter? Then, how about if there's a power failure in the winter-you'd think you wouldn't want to depend on a generator starting seconds after the juice goes out. It's not like you're able to control the fireplace-another argument for something failsafe. Those are OPINIONS.

I disagree velvetfoot, those points are common sense. I can't see how this will get approved. If it is, the inspector should have his head handed to him. In addition to the obvious danger of a power outage, 90 deg turns are not allowed in class A, the horiz run sucks and the height at the cap is wrong. It violates the 10-3-2 rule.

Is this a joke by chance?
I can't see how anyone would ever think this would be acceptable. Exhaust fans for wood are to aid in venting, not rely on it. Nearly no vertical run, terminating horizontally, and 6" from wood. Nothing about this is acceptable. If I were you I would have nothing to do with this project.

The beauty of a stamp is that we can use it to sometimes differ from the codes. At great risk to our livelihood if the "specially engineered" system kills someone.

Maybe if this was a gas fireplace but with wood, I would not depend on a forced exhaust.

Thanks again, it's obvious this will never fly, I have 3 additional drawings that got shot down early on. One had 2 - 45 degree elbows, (not sure where he was going to get them) but that was coming to close to his guest terrace, the other 2 had 3 & 4, 30 degree elbows, and all the drawings had exhaust fans. I forgot how it goes, but he has money but no sense.
