Hi newbie here, recently acquired a VC defiant 1975 stove in bits, cleaned it all up and all parts look good to go, my issue is my version has the flue exit on top (vertical), when given the height I've got to work with it where its going to sit, it would be better on the back (horizontal) so I dont have to cut a new hole in the chimney stack, I can get it into an existing fireplace. There is a panel at the back which can be removed I assume to fit a horizontal chimney but my queries are -
  1. Can I get a cast iron cover to fit the redundant top vertical flue?
  2. Can I acquire a rear vent panel anywhere given how old the stove is
  3. If I cant find one can I cut the cast iron removeable back panel with an angle grinder to make an 8" circle for a chimney without ruining the part and possible resale value of stove.
Thanks

Well as it happens, I have both the rear vent flue collar AND a solid top to fit that stove. I imagine it may be a bit pricey shipping across the pond, but could be done.

Thanks, I don't really need the solid top as I can cover the top vent and its so heavy but the rear vent collar is of interest, is it loose so it can be weighed, also could you email or post a picture of it? Stu

Defiant3, thanks but change of plan, going to try and sell it so forget about weighing etc, have made decision it just too big for where we can locate it, shame really. Thanks for offer of help though.
