i recently purchased an older vigilant stove. all of the dates in the castings are from January and February of '86. there are two different styles of andirons listed for the vigilant stove, the bolt in and drop in. which style do i need for this particular stove? also anyone have a lead on a rear heat shield?

The points where the andirons connect to the stove can get obscured by ash. Try cleaning out that area and then you should be able to see how the hook up.

I got most of my parts through discountstoveparts.com when I rebuilt my Defiant Encore, but the cast iron pieces were very expensive to ship.
Though, if you just need the andirons it probably wouldn't be too much. You can also find a local stove shop that might be able to order them.

A rear heat shield can be fabricated. Just keep in mind the offset from the stove, and then the changes in the clearance to combustables.
