Wall protection

Is wall protection recommended for pellet stove use? Granted I won't be running it at the 90 degree setting it is currently curing at But my walls on either side are extremely hot to touch and I'm not looking for damage! Minimum manufacturer clearance 9" and installers used 10" distance from stove corners to walls.

I noticed this too. I did a few tests while running the stove in stove temp.
Setting Drywall temp
5-180 deg F
4-165 deg F
3-149 deg F
2-127 deg F

So my installation was done incorrectly? Just looked at my manual. I have a corner installation and the indication is the corners of the stove must be minimum 9" away from walls with or without side shields.

No damage. It usually idles somewhere in the 135 range I think when in room temp. I run in room temp 95% of the time.

According to the install manual on Harman's website 9" is with or without the heat shields on the P43...

Check the data plate on the back of your stove it will have the specifications for the install

I see that the P61A manual has changed since I installed mine less than a year ago. Used to require thermal protection on the hearth pad. I don't see it anymore in the new manual. After feeling how hot the base gets, there is no way I would install anything less than thermal protection rated.

I was told two weeks ago when I ordered the hearth pad that Harman was now requiring a certain R-value in the pads for floor and spark protection. Since I paid what feels like a leg for it - after the arm and leg for the stove - it better be right!

I don't see the requirement anymore in the P43 manual online. Check the manual that came with the stove.

I think you are fine.

The P43 does not require side shields for 9" and the minimum protection is 20 gauge steel.

Yikes, Melissa you got tons of info, don't get confused, your clearances are fine, been burning Harmans for 16 years. Set it and forget it

Checked manual and plate affixed to hopper and all said 9" minimum clearance. I just need to remember that i'm not going to be running at 90 degrees anyway! Oh that leaves it wide open for comment.....
